In the Stillness You Can Hear Him!

In the stillness you can hear Him. Seriously.

I have a strange relationship with God. It’s kind of off and on again. He’s always ON but I waiver and forget to invite Him into my life…into my problems…into the worry that sometimes keeps me up at night.

Then a light goes off and I’m all like “oh yeah…I CAN actually place my worries and care in front of Him…because He actually does care about me!”

On that note, this morning I was showering and dressing…primping…make-uping…getting ready to go to church…not because I necessarily have to go to church to “find” Him but because I enjoy being around others who practice the same faith I do. (Notice I said “practice” and not “perfect”…ha!).

As I was getting ready, slowly and with consiousness…really savoring the quiet of the morning…the deliciousness of the coffee I had brewed…the excitement of a day ahead of me full of unknowns…I prayed. It was actually not so much praying as it was trying to tune into Him in the quiet. I listened. I heard Him say to me (not an actual voice but an imprint on my heart): “If you seek me…if you search for me with ALL of your heart…you will find me.” I heard it over and over again…gently.

OKAY NOW HERE IS THE FREAKY PART!!!!!!!!!!

I looked down on the chest of drawers where my jewelry box sits and saw my devotional copy of “Jesus Calling” (by Sarah Young). Honey darlins…this devotional book is so good that I keep giving away my copy to others. Luckily, my friend Carolyn gave me a copy this Christmas so now I have one again! Anyhoo, I opened to today’s devotional — January 19th. I don’t know what the heck it is…maybe coincidence? But still, it blew my mind. Today’s devotional says:

SEEK MY FACE, and you will find more than you ever dreamed possible. Let Me displace worry at the center of your being. I am like a supersaturated cloud, showering Peace into the pool of your mind. My Nature is to bless. Your nature is to receive with thanksgiving. This is a true fit, designed before the foundation of the world. Glorify Me by receiving My blessings gratefully.

I am the goal of all your searching. When you seek Me, you find Me and are satisfied. When lesser goals capture your attention, I fade into the background of your life. I am still there, watching and waiting but you function as if you were alone. Actually, My Light shines on every situation you will ever face. Live radiantly by expanding your focus to include Me in all your moments. Let nothing dampen your search for Me. — Psalm 27:8, Phillipians 4:7, Jeremiah 29:13

Maybe it was just a coincidence, or maybe the God of the Universe actually communed with me in that moment this morning. I’d like to believe that.

My takeaway? In the stillness you can hear Him.

Beautifully put, Carol. If he listen, we can hear Him calling our name.

  2. It’s so simple, yet it’s such a struggle for us to just let go and let our Father take over.
